And we see evidence in our own experience
that tends to weaken
the perceived link between wealth and lack of ambition:
¨
We see motivation in people who are not motivated by
money. Some careers and activities are very demanding and not
financially rewarding, and may not provide fame or power, and yet they
fully engage the energies of highly motivated people. Details
¨
Similarly, we
see motivation continue in people who have already become very
wealthy. Does this simply reflect the wisdom of the saying
that, “ A handful does not satisfy a lion? ” , or does it tend to disprove
the beliefs that link ambition to lack of money and financial
security? Details
¨
We see poor people who are not highly
motivated, so clearly the lack of money does not itself provide
motivation.
¨
We see wealthy families that are literally dynasties
of ambition or that produce notably “ successful ” members at each
generation. Details
¨
We even see from studies of the modern business
corporation that people in the more successful corporations are motivated
by a culture that focuses on more than making money. Details
