George N. Harris, Jr.

George's practice focuses on tax, succession, and charitable planning for domestic and international families and family offices, advice to closely-held businesses, and the resolution of tax and fiduciary disputes.  He has extensive experience advising families on a variety of wealth and business continuity matters, has acted as counsel on the sale of private businesses in a wide variety of industries, and has tried jury and non-jury cases in numerous courts.

Recently, George served as counsel on the sale of several companies worth in excess of $100 million each, assisted the family shareholders of a leading technology business in developing a plan to prepare the company for a future transaction, advised the Board of Directors of a large private business in crafting a governance plan that satisfied both the company's legal obligations and the privacy concerns of the company's family owners.  George works closely with Wealthbridge Partners LLC, the country's leading wealth education company, on curriculum development and he was lead counsel in Schott v. Commissioner, 319 F.3d 1203 (9th Cir. 2003) and Cook v. Commissioner, 269 F.2d 854 (7th Cir. 2001).

Before entering private practice, George was a Trial Attorney in the United States Department of Justice, Tax Division.  While with the Department of Justice, he received the Tax Division's Outstanding Attorney Award and taught trial techniques in the Tax Section of the Attorney General's Advocacy Institute.  George graduated from Texas A&M University (B.A., 1985) and California Western School of Law (J.D., 1990).  He is the former Chair of the Audits & Litigation Committee of the D.C. Bar's Section on Taxation, is licensed in the District of Columbia, New York, and Texas and is admitted to appear before the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Federal, Fourth, Seventh, and Ninth Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
