Acting as General
Counsel When Needed
In this role, we advise our clients on all of the relevant aspects of the
matter, and we engage counsel from other firms, large and small, to
assist us on those aspects beyond our capabilities, just as the in-house
lawyers employed by a large corporations hire outside counsel as needed.
Sometimes, as in complex commercial litigation, our role may be limited to engaging
and supervising such outside litigation counsel. Complex
commercial litigation presents litigation management issues that may be
beyond our client’s ability or desire to manage and often these
businesses do not have in-house lawyers who can oversee the litigation
team for them.
When we act as “general counsel” for individuals and families in
building, controlling and defending wealth, we believe our law firm
represents a different model for providing legal advice than either the
boutique firm that concentrates on personal tax and estate planning or
the “private client” section of a national or regional corporate law
firm.
